ANOMALOUS
MOTION ARCHIVE

Six interactive animation ideas pulled from a derelict survey array. Every specimen below is live — move, hold, drag, click, type. Each is a self-contained canvas sketch you can lift whole.

The Watcher

An eye that follows your cursor — until you stop moving. Hold still a few seconds and it stops tracking your pointer and turns to look directly at you, pupil dilating, unblinking.

PROTOCOL — move the cursor. then don't.

BUILD — canvas radial gradients + spoke-drawn iris; pupil eases toward clamped cursor vector; an idle timer retargets it to dead center and suppresses the blink cycle.

Signal://Unknown

A dead channel of static. Drag to sweep the band and somewhere near 15.300 kHz the noise resolves into something with a heartbeat — and a message surfaces one letter at a time. Detune and it corrupts back into the noise.

PROTOCOL — drag up/down (or scroll) to tune. find the band.

BUILD — one polyline per frame: noise term fades out and an ECG waveform fades in, weighted by a gaussian around the target frequency; the message reveals per-tick while lock > 85%.

Apparition in the Static

Pure television snow. Press and hold, and a figure develops in the grain like a photograph in a darkroom. Let go and it's gone — but every exposure it comes back closer. On the fifth, it's at the glass.

PROTOCOL — press and hold. release. repeat.

BUILD — low-res ImageData noise upscaled with smoothing off; a blurred silhouette is composited with 'multiply' at alpha = exposure; a stage counter grows scale each release.

The Reaching Floor

A bed of tendrils sways in still water — until your cursor drifts in range, and they all lean toward it, quietly. Click and they recoil like burned fingers, then come back faster.

PROTOCOL — hover among them. click to provoke.

BUILD — 24 segment chains with per-segment angle easing toward the cursor plus a phase-offset sine sway; a click sets an agitation value that inverts targets briefly, then multiplies pursuit speed as it decays.

Something on the Sweep

A quiet radar. Debris, mostly. But one contact moves — every pass of the sweep it's a ring closer, and it doesn't drift like the others. Pinging pushes it back. You can't ping forever.

PROTOCOL — watch the sweep. click to ping it back.

BUILD — translucent-rect persistence for phosphor trails; blips relight when the sweep angle crosses them; the hostile contact decrements radius per revolution and click-pings add range back.

The Residual Process

Something is still running on the ship's computer, and it answers. It types slowly, makes mistakes, corrects them. It notices when you stop typing. It has been alone a very long time and it says so.

PROTOCOL — click the terminal. say something. then wait.

BUILD — DOM terminal with per-character typing, deliberate typo-and-backspace glitches, regex-keyed response pool, an idle timer that makes it speak first, and random one-frame corruption of old lines.
