ACCESSIBILITY
The short version: we are aiming for WCAG 2.1 level AA across the site — the standard most schools and public services use. We are not there yet. This page is honest about what already works, what we know still gets in the way, and how to tell us about anything we have missed.
WHAT ALREADY HELPS
- Read-aloud narration. Most Academy worlds speak their instructions and questions aloud in a natural-sounding, pre-recorded voice, so pre-readers and struggling readers can play.
- Labels on every card. Academy cards show an age range. Arcade, Interactive and Simulations cards show who a piece suits, plus notes like ⚡ flashing lights, “needs a keyboard” or “spooky”, so an educator can decide before a child opens it.
- A way back on every page. Worlds and art pieces carry a “← back” chip in the bottom-left corner that returns to the shelf you came from.
- Reduce Motion is respected on the home page, and STRATAFALL has a Photosensitive mode in its Settings that turns off bloom and flashes.
- Built for iPad first. Most worlds are played by tapping, with on-screen keyboards and keypads where typing is needed.
WHAT WE KNOW STILL GETS IN THE WAY
These come from our own full-site audit on 2026-09-14. The codes are our internal tracking numbers, so you can quote one if you write to us.
- Flashing lights. Warp Drive, the Suno Visualizer, Witchfall and STRATAFALL can flash the whole screen. Their cards now say so, but several big animations do not yet calm down when your device asks for reduced motion.
INTERACTIVE-25 - Zoom is locked on some pages, including the reading apps Story Galaxy and AstroSpell, so pinching to enlarge text may not work (especially on Android and Chromebooks).
CRAWL-SECURITY-26ACADEMY-A-28 - Keyboard-only use is patchy. The Academy apps do not accept typed answers from a physical keyboard yet, and some corner buttons cannot be reached with the Tab key.
ACADEMY-B-19FRONT-DOOR-24 - Some pieces need a keyboard or a mouse. Undertype cannot be played by touch alone, Four Animations reacts to a mouse pointer rather than a finger, and Witchfall’s mute and help screens are keyboard-only.
ACADEMY-B-02INTERACTIVE-13GCV-M3 - Corner chips can cover buttons on phones. The bottom-left row of sign-in and time chips sometimes sits on top of a game’s own controls.
ACADEMY-A-02 - Not everything is read aloud yet. The world cards on the portal pages are text only, Socrates’ Orbit has no narration yet, and four Nova Lab explanations are silent.
FRONT-DOOR-33ACADEMY-B-04 - Small text and tap targets in a few places, such as the “Launch world” links on iPad and STRATAFALL’s next-piece previews.
FRONT-DOOR-24GAMES-NEW-11 - 3D pieces on older devices. If a device cannot draw 3D graphics, Black Hole and the feather pieces show a short message instead of the piece.

TELL US ABOUT A BARRIER
If something on the site doesn’t work for you or your child — a colour you can’t read, a button you can’t reach, a sound you need and can’t get — please write. Tell us which page, which device and browser, and what got in the way. You don’t need to know any technical words. Please don’t include a child’s full name or other personal details.
Or write to jesselander@gmail.com directly.
CHANGES
We update this page when a barrier is fixed or a new one is found, and change the date at the top when we do.
